About Demelan Cream

 

Demelan Cream is a topical treatment used to reduce skin hyperpigmentation (dark patches). It is a combination of three active ingredients:

• Glycolic Acid: An Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA).
• Alpha-Arbutin: A skin-lightening agent.
• Kojic Acid: A skin-lightening agent.

 

How It Works

 

This cream works in two main ways to lighten the skin:

1. Exfoliation (from Glycolic Acid): The Glycolic acid works as a chemical exfoliant. It dissolves the bonds holding dead skin cells to the surface, helping to speed up cell turnover. This process sheds the darker, pigmented cells more quickly, revealing newer, more evenly-toned skin underneath.
2. Pigment Reduction (from Alpha-Arbutin & Kojic Acid): Both Alpha-arbutin and Kojic acid function as tyrosinase inhibitors. Tyrosinase is the main enzyme your body needs to produce melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color). By blocking this enzyme, both ingredients help to slow down and reduce the production of new melanin, which directly lightens dark spots and prevents new ones from forming.

This cream is indicated for lightening dark patches and discolorations on the skin.

• Hyperpigmentation: Fades dark spots caused by sun damage (sunspots).
• Melasma: Lightens dark patches often caused by hormonal changes (such as from pregnancy or birth control pills).
• Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): Reduces the appearance of facial marks and spots left behind by acne or pimples.
• Uneven Skin Tone: Helps to lighten pigmentation and improve overall skin radiance.

Note: The text mentions “pregnancy marks.” This typically refers to melasma (dark patches on the face, also called the “mask of pregnancy”), not stretch marks on the body. Regarding eczema, this cream may help fade the dark discoloration left behind by eczema patches, but it does not treat the active eczema itself (the itchiness, inflammation, or rash).

 

How to Use This Medicine

 

This medicine is for external use only. Always follow your doctor’s instructions.

1. Preparation: Wash your face with a mild, gentle cleanser and gently pat your skin dry.
2. Application: Apply a small, thin layer of the cream only to the affected dark patches. Gently rub it in.
3. Frequency: It is typically applied once a day, in the evening, as its ingredients can make your skin highly sensitive to sunlight.

⚠️ Important Precautions & Warnings

 

• High Sun Sensitivity: This is the most important precaution. This cream makes your skin extremely sensitive to sunlight.
  • You must use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every single day, even if it is cloudy.
  • Reapply sunscreen as needed.
  • Wear protective clothing, such as a wide-brimmed hat, and limit sun exposure.
• Irritation: Do not apply this cream to broken, cut, sunburned, or actively inflamed skin (like an active eczema rash).
• Avoid Sensitive Areas: Be very careful to avoid the delicate skin around your eyes, the corners of your mouth, and the creases of your nose.
• Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

 

Common Side Effects
