How to Use This Medicine

2. Preparation: Wash your face with a mild, gentle cleanser and gently pat your skin dry.
3. Wait: Wait 20-30 minutes until your skin is completely dry. Applying Tretinoin to damp skin will significantly increase irritation.
4. Use a Pea-Sized Amount: Squeeze a small amount (about the size of a pea) onto your fingertip. This is enough for your entire face. Using more will not provide faster or better results and will significantly increase side effects.
5. Application: Gently spread a thin layer over the affected areas (e.g., the entire face, not just as a spot treatment).
6. Avoid Sensitive Areas: Be very careful to avoid the delicate skin around your eyes, the corners of your mouth, and the creases of your nose.

  • Avoid sunlamps and tanning beds completely.
• Irritation is Expected: This 0.05% strength is potent, and the gel formula can be drying. It is very common to experience redness, dryness, peeling, and a stinging/burning sensation for the first few weeks. This is a normal part of the skin’s adjustment period.
• The “Tretinoin Purge”: Your acne may appear to get worse before it gets better. This is common in the first few weeks as the gel brings underlying blemishes to the surface. Do not stop treatment; this phase usually subsides.
• Do Not Apply On: Do not apply to broken, sunburned, or eczematous (inflamed) skin.
• Cosmetic Procedures: Avoid face waxing, laser treatments, and chemical peels. Tretinoin makes the skin fragile and can lead to tearing or burns.
